Interjections in English
An interjection is a word or phrase that expresses emotion. It does not relate grammatically to the other parts of the sentence.
If you are expressing a strong emotion then use an exclamation mark '!' & comma ',' can be used for a mild emotion.
Common Examples of Interjections-
* Ouch
* Wow
* Oh
* Oops
* No
* Ah ha
* Nope
To express a feeling we use - ouch, wow, well, oops etc.
* Wow! That was impressive.
* Ouch! That hurts.
* Oops! I am sorry, I never do it again.
Adjectives that are used as interjections - nice, good etc.
* Nice! I couldn't have done better.
* Good! Now we can move on to the next level.
* Sweet! I got a mobile for my birthday.
To say yes or no we use - yes, no, nope etc.
* Yes! I will do it.
* Nope! I am not going anywhere.
Nouns or noun phrases that are used as interjections.
* Congratulations! We won the match.
* Hello! How are you?
Few examples for strong emotions.
* Hooray! I got the job.
* Hey! Stop messing with me.
* Oh! They're here.
* Yahoo! I got my bonus.
Few examples for mild emotions.
* Ah, that feels great.
* Oh well, what's done is done.
* Well, what did your mom say?
* Hmm, I don't think so.
